MOP-UP 002 (POCUS)

Projected Start: Q2 2027

Projected Duration: 12 months

Goal: Maximize Outcomes through Prevention, Uptake and Patient-Centered Care through expanded Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) capacity among frontline healthcare providers.

Target Population: Healthcare professionals serving PLHIV and other underserved patient populations requiring timely procedural assessments.

Unmet Need: Limited access to diagnostic imaging and specialist services can delay clinical decision-making, particularly in resource-constrained settings. Frontline providers often lack access to rapid diagnostic tools capable of identifying common cardiovascular, respiratory and other medical conditions at the point of care, contributing to delayed diagnosis, unnecessary referrals, increased healthcare costs and poorer patient outcomes.

Implementation: A targeted workforce development and capacity-building program to provide POCUS training, competency development, clinical mentorship and implementation support for frontline healthcare providers. The initiative will support integration of bedside ultrasound into routine clinical practice to enhance diagnostic efficiency and patient-centered care.

Impact: Increased frontline diagnostic capacity. Earlier identification and management of cardiovascular, respiratory, abdominal, and other clinically significant conditions. Reduced dependence on delayed imaging referrals and specialist consultations. Improved clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. Strengthened healthcare workforce capabilities. Evidence generation to support broader adoption of POCUS within integrated HIV, NCD and primary healthcare services. Reduced healthcare costs associated with delayed diagnosis, unnecessary referrals and advanced disease complications.
